Training
Women’s Circus offers a variety of different classes each week in circus, physical theatre, performance, music and technical production to its membership. The training program is divided into 4 terms per year and includes community events, a program especially for first-time members, the “New Women’s Program”, and short term and intensive open classes. It is also the site for creative developments that inform our end-of-year public performance.
Regular Training Program
Around 150 women participate in weekly training classes at Women’s Circus. These women are all members of Women’s Circus, and must first complete the “New Women’s Program” for one term before taking other circus classes. Classes currently offered are Aerials (3 levels), Acrobalance (3 levels), Music, General Conditioning, Tumbling, Technical Production, Performance and the New Women’s Program. Read more…
New Women’s Program
The New Women’s Program is designed especially for first-time participants in Women’s Circus. It is an introductory class that gives participants a basic introduction to as many aspects of circus as possible, and that pays special attention to building trust and establishing safe ways of working. We are currently accepting women for the 2009 waitlist. Read more…
Open Classes
Throughout the year, short courses in specific skills are offered and are open to all women. No previous circus experience or skills are necessary. Short courses for 2008 Term 2 include Clowning, Whip cracking, Chinese Pole and Group Bike.
Intensive Classes
Since Women’s Circus regular training ceases during school holidays, there are usually intensive classes that run at these times. These classes focus on a building ability and technique in a certain skill, such as acrobalance, tumbling, german wheel, clowning, aerials etc
