The Antechamber (2007)
In November 2007 the Pitt Theatre at Footscray Arts Centre transformed into The Antechamber, a late-night laneway bar and hospital emergency department; full of neuroses, crises, small hurts, major heartbreaks, triumphs and celebrations.
Directed by Anni Davey (Circus Oz) with musical direction by Bec Matthews (The Spoils and The Paranas) and Sarah Ward (Sista She and Yana Alana). Antechamber was the Women’s Circus annual show for 2007. With the same team that directed our 2006 show, A Plane Without Wings is a Rocket.
The cast of 50 women, ranging in age from early 20s to 60, spent 2007 devising a series of cabaret acts, while the production crew, including lighting, sound and stage management, came entirely from our Technical Production class.
The atmosphere is electric, as if throwing back my head and laughing wildly would be not only acceptable, but warranted…To the ladies of Footscray Women’s Circus, i might not have been able to pull a rabbit out of it, but had i been wearing one, i would have taken my top hat off, time and again, to encore you.
